MADRID, Nov. 5 (EUROPA PRESS).- At least five people were injured this Wednesday after an alleged intentional attack in the isla de Oléronlocated on the Atlantic coast of the department of Charente-Maritime, Francean event that led the authorities to open an investigation into the incident, with no further details available for now.
He Minister of the Interior French, Laurent Nuñezindicated that “a driver of a vehicle has run over multiple pedestrians and cyclists in Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron y Dolus d’Oléron“Two victims are in serious condition and there are three others injured,” he wrote on his account on the social network X, formerly Twitter.
“The suspect has been detained by the gendarmes. There is an open investigation,” he assured, before highlighting that he went to the scene at the request of the Prime Minister, Sébastien Lecornu.

The Mayor of Saint-Pierre-d’Oléron, Christophe Sueur, pointed in statements granted to the French television chain BFM TV that the driver “deliberately” ran over “all the people he could find”, after which he “intentionally set fire to his vehicle”. Likewise, he stressed that the man “is known” by the Gendarmerie for “alcohol problems,” among others.
For his part, the Prosecutor in La Rochelle, Arnaud Laraize, stated in statements to the French newspaper Le Figaro that the suspect’s actions were “voluntary” and specified that “at the time of his arrest, he shouted ‘God is the greatest’.”
“However, the motive has not been confirmed. It is something that the investigation must determine,” said Laraize, who stated that the investigation was opened for attempted murder, without the Anti-Terrorist Prosecutor’s Office being involved for now in the investigations.
