The commemoration of the seventh anniversary of the “Fourth Transformation” in Mexico is celebrated with a massive demonstration of popular force called by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, known as “The March of the Tiger”, which will culminate in the Zócalo. The event is also part of the reappearance of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who expressed his unconditional support for the current President and established the only three circumstances that would make him consider returning to public life: the defense of democracy, the defense of Sheinbaum or the defense of national sovereignty.
Mexico City, December 6 (However).– Seven years after the start of the “Fourth Transformation” that “change of political regime” pronounced by Andrés Manuel López Obrador In its protest, the movement is getting ready for a new demonstration of popular force. Today, under the leadership of the President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardowho has a historic vote and high approval levels in his first year in office, the 4T has called for a massive mobilization known in networks as “The March of the Tiger”.
This event, which will culminate with a presidential message in the emblematic Zócalo of Mexico City, seeks to celebrate the consolidation of this political project that, supported by the qualified majority in Congress after “Plan C”, continues to set the national tone despite challenges such as persistent insecurity. The commemoration also occurs in a context of public reappearance of former President López Obrador, who reaffirms his support for Sheinbaum and defines the only three circumstances under which he would consider returning to public life.
“Today the Fourth Political Transformation of Mexico may seem pretentious or exaggerated, but today not only does a new government begin, today a change of political regime begins,” Andrés Manuel López Obrador pronounced 7 years ago at his inauguration in the Congress of the Union, after his victory on Sunday, July 1, in which he obtained 30 million votes.
Today, this “Fourth Transformation” is headed by President Claudia Sheinabum Pardo, who arrived at the National Palace as the most voted in the history of the country (36 million Mexicans supported her) and with the best level of approval of a Mexican president in his first year in office in the last 25 years.
On Friday, the consulting firm Enkoll announced that Sheinbaum thus maintains his level of popularity, with just two points less than what he registered in December 2024, when after three months in government he maintained 76 percent approval.
Among the greatest achievements that people highlighted about Sheinbaum’s management is the provision of social support to women and older adults, which represented 38 percent of the mentions. However, the persistence of insecurity and crime are among what 21 percent of the population surveyed described as their “biggest mistake.”
The “movement”—as the ruling party Morena calls the group of militants and sympathizers—has had growth never before seen in the recent history of the country, particularly if one takes into account that Morena was born as a party in 2015. In fact, the first governorships that the guinda party obtained were won in 2018, in the midst of the Lopez Obrador tsunami.
At that time, they triumphed in Morelos, in alliance with the PES, with Cuauhtémoc Blanco; in Chiapas, with Rutilio Escandón; in Tabasco, with Adán Augusto López; in Veracruz, with Cuitláhuac García, and in Mexico City, with Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, the current President of the country. In fact, today the ruling party governs 24 entities, of which half will be renewed in the intermediate process of 2027.
Added to this is the qualified majority that the 4T – as the so-called “Fourth Transformation” is called – obtained in the last federal process, a majority that it achieved through a campaign in which it was requested to support the cherries party at the polls to obtain control of Congress and be able to modify the Constitution without any vote from the opposition, which since the last Government had decreed to be in a “constitutional moratorium”, against any proposal from the ruling party.
That call to obtain a qualified majority was called “Plan C”, for which the allies of Morenoism were required: the Labor Party (PT), headed since its inception by the current Senator Alberto Anaya, and the Green Ecologist Party of Mexico (PVEM), the eternal ally of the power in power that, thanks to the 4T, has obtained its best numbers in voting and in electoral victories.
It is in this context, and particularly in the face of the mobilization attempts of the opposition that sought to capitalize on an apparent discontent among Generation Z, that President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, Morena, the party led by Luisa María Alcalde, as well as militants and sympathizers have called for mobilization this Saturday as part of what has been called in networks “The March of the Tiger” – a reference to the people who have supported the left -, which will culminate with a rally in the Zócalo of Mexico City where the President will give a message.
The Zócalo of Mexico City is, in fact, the historical scene of social and leftist struggles in the modern history of the country; Although, within the framework of the mobilizations of the so-called “Pink Tide” it managed to be filled by the right, President López Obrador demonstrated his political muscle there as President Sheinbaum Pardo will do this day.
The President herself has made an open invitation to Mexican men and women to come this Saturday, December 6, to celebrate seven years of the Fourth Transformation: “In Mexico the people rule, in Mexico there are governments that are of the people, by the people and for the people of Mexico and the only one who can say it is the people of Mexico themselves, that is why we say: with the people everything, without the people nothing,” she said on November 30 in Cuernavaca, Morelos.
The event is also framed in the midst of the public reappearance of President López Obrador, who a week ago launched his new book Greatness, in a video in which he asked his followers to support the President “very, very, very much,” reminding them that “it is still vulture season and there are hawks.” In addition, he described her as “the best president in the world” and highlighted her for being “loyal to the people” and to the principles of transformation.
In the same message, López Obrador presented the only three reasons why he would consider going out on the streets again and leaving his retirement: 1. Defense of Democracy: He would leave if “they attacked democracy,” specifically if “the great frauds” that potentates and oligarchs used to carry out were repeated. He emphasizes that, for poor people, democracy is not just a civic duty, but a matter of “survival.” 2. Defense of President Sheinbaum: He said he would defend her if there were “coup attempts” or if she was “harassed.” 3. Defense of Sovereignty: The third reason would be if Mexico’s sovereignty was violated, since the country must remain a “free” and “independent” nation.
A day later, the President clarified that fortunately, we are not in any of the three circumstances that Andrés Manuel López Obrador proposed for his reintegration into public life. “The people of Mexico are with the project, we see it every day, the surveys say it in case there was any doubt,” he stated in relation to the support for the “Fourth Transformation” movement that is celebrating its 7th anniversary.
