BEIJING.- Eight people died and four others were injured in it residential building fire in the Chinese province of Cantonlocal media reported on Wednesday.
The fire started on Tuesday night in a building in the city of Shantou and was extinguished in less than an hour, according to the local Fire Department, cited by the official agency. Xinhua.
The burning building, a cement self-constructionhad four floors, of which the flames affected about 150 square meters.
Los four injured are hospitalizedwhile the authorities have opened an investigation to determine the causes of the incident.
Deadly fires in China
This new event adds to a series of deadly fires occurred in recent months in different parts of the country, which has generated concern about the safety conditions in commercial and residential buildings in China.
Last August, five people lost their lives in a fire that broke out in a residential building in the province of Guangxi, while in April in two fires reported in a restaurant in the city of Liaoyang (Liaoning, northeast) and in a nursing home in the province of Hebei (north), caused 22 and 20 deaths, respectively.
