Red Fort blast: List of major blasts in Delhi


A tragic car explosion occurred near Gate 1 of Red Fort Metro Station on Monday evening, due to which at least eight people lost their lives and several others were left injured. This was the first major strike in 14 years.

Here’s a list of major blasts in Delhi since 1996:

  • 1996 LAJPAT NAGAR BLAST: 13 killed, dozens injured in a busy market explosion
  • 1997 SERIAL BLASTS ACROSS CITY: Explosions hit Sadar Bazaar, Karol Bagh, Rani Bagh, Chandni Chowk and a bus in Punjabi Bagh
  • 2000 RED FORT ATTACK: Terrorists opened fire inside the fort complex, killing two people
  • 2001 PARLIAMENT ATTACK: Nine security personnel and staff members killed in a suicide assault on Parliament
  • 2005 DIWALI-EVE BLASTS: 67 killed and over 200 injured in Paharganj, Sarojini Nagar and Govindpuri.
  • 2008 SERIAL BLASTS: 20 killed in coordinated explosions at Connaught Place, Karol Bagh and Greater Kailash
  • 2011 – DELHI HIGH COURT BLAST: 15 killed and 79 injured by a briefcase bomb outside the High Court
