Anthony Gearythe eight-time Daytime Emmy winner who became a household name as Luke Spencer on General Hospital, has died at the age of 78, as per a report. He passed away on December 14 due to complications from a scheduled operation that took place three days earlier, as per a TV Insider report.

In the weeks before his death, Geary took comfort in revisiting memories from his long career. His husband, Claudio Gama, shared a video of Geary watching former co-star Genie Francis during her appearance on Maurice Benard’s State of Mind podcast, as per the report. According to Gama, “It really made Tony very happy,” and added that, “He told me, ‘those are two lovely and talented people, great friends, and I miss them,’” as quoted by TV Insider.

Anthony (Tony) Geary’s Rise on General Hospital as Luke Spencer

Born on May 29, 1947, in Coalville, Utah, Geary was raised in a Mormon household. His father ran a construction company, and his mother was a homemaker, as per the report.
He grew up with three sisters, Dana, DeAnn, and Jana. While his mother hoped he would become a teacher, Geary felt drawn to acting from an early age.

That passion took shape while he was studying at the University of Utah, where his talent caught the attention of actor Jack Albertson. After seeing Geary perform as a sophomore, Albertson cast him in a touring production of The Subject Was Roses, setting Geary on a professional path. Over the years, he appeared in more than 50 stage productions, maintaining a strong connection to theater throughout his career.
After Francis left the show in 1982, Geary continued as the anchor of General Hospital, working alongside actors such as Demi Moore and Emma Samms. Francis returned in 1983, and the pair later exited the series together, briefly returning in 1984. In addition to General Hospital, Geary appeared in films and television projects including Intimate Agony, Do You Know the Muffin Man?, The Disorderlies, You Can’t Hurry Love, Crack House, UHF, Scorchers, Night of the Warrior, and Carpool Guy.

Geary was survived by his husband, Claudio Gama, who told TV Insider that, “It was a shock for me and our families and our friends. For more than 30 years, Tony has been my friend, my companion, my husband,” as quoted in the report.
