Mexico City, November 21 (However).- In addition to the staff of its three television channels and its magazine Vertigowho defend their economic, political and ideological interests, the magnate Ricardo Salinas Pliego has recruited national and foreign figures, ranging from conservative intellectuals such as Enrique Krauze and representatives of Claudio X. González Guajardo to openly far-right activists and digital media, to give “the cultural battle” against the left and form to young “warriors” willing to “give their all” for their project of opposition to the Government of Claudia Sheinbaum.
The rise in radicalism of Salinas Pliego against the government coincides with the decisions of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) to finally pay part of the 74 billion pesos it owes. Among the actions it finances are meetings of intellectuals and activists, national and foreign, to discuss “authoritarianism” in Mexico and indoctrinate young people in favor of their interests, as revealed by Jesús Rendón, a self-defined “hard right” politician who calls himself “Tumbaburros”.
“Uncle Richi asked me for something,” he revealed. “He told me: ‘Hey, Tumba, I need pure fucking warrior willing to give his all.’ You see that Uncle Richi is very rude. Then he told me: ‘I need, apart from all the chorizo that you are going to throw at them there, you tell the people (people like you), in a few years, after they are trained, they are going to have to go fight for elected positions or for that narrative that urges us today win’. Then he told me: ‘I want pure warrior’.”
Rendón explained this order Salinas Pliego before those attending the Freedom Festival, held on November 9, in the Liberty University —owned by the tycoon in alliance with the Atlas Network—, whose rector, Jorge Carlos Díaz Cuervo, was a trusted official of Rosario Robles as Secretary of Social Development (Sedesol) and Territorial and Urban Development (Sedatu) when the diversion of more than 7 billion pesos known as the “Master Scam” was committed in the Government of Enrique Peña Nieto.
But “Tumbaburros”, who assured the reporter that he did not charge money for the conference to “train opinion leaders” for young people, and Díaz Cuervo, who was a leader of the Social Democracy and Fuerza Ciudadana parties, are only part of the recruitment that Salinas Pliego is doing for his political project, which also includes Krauze’s group, director of the magazine Free Lettersand representatives of González Guajardo, such as María Amparo Casar Pérez, as well as the Spanish Javier Negre, director of The daily rightrecently appeared in Mexico.
Negre, who has been exposed as a spreader of lies since he was fired from the newspaper The World of Spainjoined Salinas Pliego’s project after he went to Argentina in December of last year, invited by Javier Milei, to call on businessmen to “put pressure on the media and the people who are fighting for the cultural battle” to win against “the shitty lefties.”
“We will support the resurgence of a new right and communicators who are not afraid of the corrupt system,” wrote Negre, in January of this year, when La Derecho newspaper appeared in Mexico, a media only on social networks that is a showcase for right-wing extremists without informative rigor and whose director says he has been politically persecuted since Sheinbaum identified him as part of the call for the “Generation Z” march.
Like Salinas Pliego, the latter have been conveners and instigators of opposition mobilizations, such as the “pink tide” in favor of the former presidential candidate
In fact, days before the march, Salinas Pliego and Krauze organized the meeting “La Libertad de Vuelta” that was held on Wednesday the 12th and Thursday the 13th at El Colegio Nacional and the Universidad de la Libertad, in order to commemorate the colloquium “Vuelta. The experience of freedom”, organized 35 years ago by the magazine directed by the poet Octavio Paz.
During the two days, in both venues, deliberation tables on economy, democracy and law were held, in one of which, moderated by Krauze, José Ramón Cosío, retired Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice, stated that in Mexico the rule of law is weak, extortion of officials is growing and since the Government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador there is a link between the government and organized crime.

In Mexico, he said, “it is very difficult to know if whoever is building a building is laundering money; if whoever brings a car with certain characteristics bought it with legal money or not. And the second issue that worries me a lot is that I am not very clear where the government ends and where crime ends, and I am talking about the last six-year term and this one.”
Krauze’s relationship with Salinas Pliego has been going on for some time after disagreements, even because the former is a member of the Board of Directors of Televisa, but it has been strengthened thanks to Sergio Vela, director of Art and Culture of the Salinas Pliego Center and president of the National Council for Culture and the Arts (Conaculta) in the Government of Felipe Calderón. The “Freedom of Return” meeting, prior to the march on Saturday the 15th, is part of this relationship.
Not only that: Through Vela’s initiator, the magnate’s Centro Salinas Pliego founded the quarterly magazine Líber, in 2018, directed by the writer Fernando Fernández, a member of the Mexican Academy of Language, who has published Krauze and those close to him such as Gabriel Zaid, Christopher Domínguez, Jesús Silva-Herzog Márquez, Ricardo Cayuela Gally, Malva Flores and Adolfo Castañón, while he also does so in Letras Free.
In 2022, when Salinas Pliego was about to break with López Obrador for not forgiving him the payment of taxes, Art and Culture of the Ricardo B. Salinas Pliego Center paid tribute to Krauze for his 75 years of age. And more recently, in October, the historian sent a congratulation to the magnate on his 70th birthday, which was interpreted as support for his presidential project: “Congratulations, Ricardo. The seventies are a good decade to build.”
Krauze and Salinas Pliego went from anger to affection over the years: In May 2012, the former described the decision of TV Azteca for broadcasting a soccer game instead of the presidential debate:
“It is a mockery of the fragile Mexican democracy and an arrogant ‘To the people: bread and circuses!’, because the circus is the private property of Mr. Salinas. We must remind him that it is not: In Mexico, private television is a public concession, which by definition must serve the public interest. That interest, in this case, is evident: in Mexico you can watch hundreds of soccer games (with their respective debates) a year, but for the 2012 presidential election we will have only two debates. And it is of the highest public interest that they reach the greater number of citizens.”
Salians Pliego also has characters from Krauze in his opinion bar on the ADN40 channel, but also those close to Claudio 2024.
