The governors condemned the aggression against the President and demanded the construction of a Mexico in which substantive equality is a palpable reality.
Mexico City, November 5 (However).- The National Conference of Governors (Conago) this morning condemned the attack to which the President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo in the streets of Historic Center of the Mexico City (CdMx)when a subject approached her from behind to harass her.
“Las governors and the governors that we integrate the National Governors Conference We strongly condemn the aggression suffered yesterday by the President of the Republic, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardoand we express our total support, solidarity and respect towards his person and his investiture,” they said in a statement.
Conago regretted the fact that currently women, even those who hold public positions of high responsibility, such as the presidential investiture, continue to suffer acts of harassment and machismo that harm their rights and physical integrity with different forms of violence “that not only offend and hurt”, but demonstrate the long way that Mexican society has to travel in terms of gender equality and equity.

Likewise, he deplored the act that Sheinbaum Pardo suffered and maintained that such behavior has no place in Mexican society.
“Eradicating these behaviors must be a national priority. Any attempt to intimidate, denigrate or violate a woman, regardless of her position or ideology, violates democratic principles, respect, and equality that we all must defend,” emphasized the group of leaders.
The governors took advantage of the occasion to emphasize the importance of General Law of Access for Women to a Life Free of Violenceas well as how fundamental the international treaties on the matter are to which Mexico is a party.
For this instance of interstate coordination, this Law represents a fundamental tool to “protect the integrity and privacy of women that commits us to continue strengthening its application and scope in all states of the country.”
Finally, the signatories of the position reaffirmed their commitment to defending women’s rights, as well as to the eradication of all forms of aggression, harassment or violence.
The governors that make up Conago urged citizens to join forces so that Mexico is a country free of violence against women, in which empathy, justice and equity prevail, “because an attack against one woman is an attack against all.”
