Mexico City, December 2 (However).- The President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo revealed this Tuesday that he is trying to maintain a call telephone with Pope Leo XIV to personally invite you to visit Mexico.
“In fact, I am looking for a call with the Pope. I make it public here, I announce: we are looking for him to be able to have a meeting here. Remember that a short time ago he said that he would love to visit the Basilica of Guadalupe, to get to know it. So we are looking for a call,” he said.
Given the rumors that the Supreme Pontiff had agreed to attend the inauguration of the Banorte Stadium (formerly the Azteca Stadium) in March 2026, the Mexican president indicated that she still has no information in this regard.
Sheinbaum recalled that when Pope Leo XIV assumed office as Supreme Pontiff, the Secretary of the Interior, Rosa Icela Rodríguez, attended the event and gave him a letter of invitation to visit Mexico.

Pope Leo XIV wants to visit Mexico to see the Basilica
Last November, Pope Leo XIV stated that he intends to tour Latin America to visit the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico and visit other countries such as Uruguay, Argentina and Peru.

The Supreme Pontiff told the media that he would be happy to travel to Mexican territory and other nations, however, he stressed that “The problem is coordinating with all the commitments.”
Leo XIV announced that he plans to make more trips in 2026, since with the end of the holy year his commitments in Rome will be reduced.
The Pope announced that next year he could visit the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico, the sanctuary of Fátima in Portugal, Argentina and Uruguay.
