Mexico City, November 15 (However).- The Head of Government of Mexico City (CdMx), Clara Brugadaannounced on Friday a posthumous medal for Alicia Matiasthe grandmother who protected her granddaughter with her body, Jazlyn Azulethduring the explosion of a pipe in it Concordia Bridgein the Mayor’s Office Iztapalapalast September 10.
From the Altar of the Homeland, located in the Chapultepec Forest, Brugada explained that the tribute will take place once Jazlyn Azuleth returns from her recovery treatment at the Shriners Hospital for Childrenlocated in the city of Galveston, Texas, in USAwhere it was sent through the Ministry of Health and the Michou and Mau Foundation.
“When her granddaughter, Jazlyn Azuleth, returns, a posthumous medal will be awarded and we will be holding a meeting with doctors and nurses who have continued to participate in supporting the victims,” explained the capital’s president.

In this sense, the official highlighted the work of the health sector after the tragedy. “Immediately that day they were assisting and they told us how the workers, no matter if they had finished their hour of service, returned to assist the transferred population,” he commented.
“There was a lot of participation, dedication, heroism and then came more important stages and there we recognized the work that many and many did alongside the victims or their families,” added the Head of Government.
As part of the announcement, those in attendance held a minute of silence for the victims, while capital police officer Sergio Ángel Soriano received the Yaotl badge for helping Jazlyn Azuleth.
“The memory of Alicia and her little granddaughter in every patrol and in every emergency accompanies us with the admiration of our children and those people who have given life to our city,” he said.
Jazlyn’s case went around the world after on September 10 a gas pipe from the company Transportadora Silza, a subsidiary of Grupo Tomza, exploded while transporting 49,500 liters of LP gas, leaving a total of 31 people dead, as well as 13 people hospitalized and 40 who have already been discharged.
Baby Jazlyn managed to survive the tragedy because her grandmother protected her with her body from the explosion, which is why the woman died on September 13, while the minor entered surgery due to the critical state of health she presented as a result of what happened.
On November 7, the Shriners Hospital for Children reported that Jazlyn Azuleth satisfactorily completed her treatment, while Isaí Santiago, another minor who was injured, was discharged from the Tacubaya Hospital, with which only Yaneth Guadalupe Guerrero López, 22, continues to receive comprehensive care at the National Rehabilitation Institute.
