Speaking at the inauguration of the 28th edition of the Bengaluru Tech Summit 2025, Asia’s largest technology event, Shivakumar laid out a sweeping vision for the city’s future, promising faster connectivity, modern corridors, global-standard hubs, and an ecosystem that supports the next era of innovation.

According to him, Bengaluru’s growth is directly tied to its ability to modernise its roads, mobility systems, and business infrastructure. This is why the state has begun implementing mega projects worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore, spanning tunnels, metro lines, elevated corridors, global business zones, and futuristic mobility solutions.
Bengaluru to Get India’s Longest Twin Tunnel, Double-Decker Metro, and Massive Elevated Corridors
During his address, the Deputy CM listed the flagship projects currently underway or planned for the city:
- 40-km Twin Tunnel Project – Rs 42,500 crore
- 41-km Double-Decker Metro – Rs 18,000 crore
- 110-km Elevated Corridor Network – Rs 15,000 crore
- 320-km Buffer Roads Upgrade – Rs 5,000 crore
- SkyDeck Project – Rs 500 crore
- 74-km Bengaluru Business Corridor – Rs 27,000 crore
These projects aim to reduce congestion, improve mobility efficiency, and prepare Bengaluru for future population and industry demands.
What the Government Plans for Bengaluru’s Global Future
Making a major revelation, Shivakumar confirmed that a second airport is being planned for Bengaluru, acknowledging rising travel demand and the need for long-term air connectivity solutions.He also announced:
- A dedicated NRI Secretariat to support and co-ordinate with the global Indian diaspora.
- Residential layouts for NRIs to simplify investment and settlement opportunities.
- A world-class AI City near Bidadi, spread across 9,000 acres, envisioned to become a futuristic tech hub hosting global companies and advanced research.
- A new international business complex designed to house global corporations under one integrated ecosystem.
Shivakumar added that Bengaluru’s unique blend of talent, weather, culture, and policy focus gives it an unmatched edge among global tech destinations.

While highlighting infrastructure as the backbone, the Deputy CM emphasised that Bengaluru’s real strength lies in its people.
He appealed to industry leaders to use their CSR contributions to strengthen rural education, noting that the government is bringing in policies to support such collaborations.
He urged industry veterans to join hands with the government to create opportunities not only for Karnataka or India, but for the world at large.
