Petition to the UN for the murdered journalists
On the occasion of International Day to End Impunity for Crimes against Journalists that commemorates the November 2the ONG urged all member states of the HIM to support the establishment of an international independent commission to investigate serious violations of international humanitarian lawcriminal or human rights, committed against journalists.
This independent commission would issue recommendations to strengthen countries’ legislation, accountability mechanisms and reparation for victims, “thus facilitating the truth and preventing recidivism.”
“When a journalist is murdered and the crime goes unpunished, this tragedy also sends the message that killing journalists is acceptable (…), it sends a chilling signal that the powerful can silence voices,” denounced the NGO.
