In just over 200 days, the ball will roll again in Mexican stadiums, to inaugurate the 2026 World Cup. It will be the third time that our country hosts a World Cup, but this time it takes on a different meaning: it is not just about reliving the excitement of football, but about showing that we are a country in transformation.
President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that our nation is preparing for this joint event to be, in addition to a sports festival, a real opportunity for well-being for millions of Mexican men and women. The objective is that the economic benefits, tourism and infrastructure generated translate into concrete benefits for the population.
Airports, roads and immigration procedures are already being modernized to receive more than 5.5 million visitors. Official training centers will open in 17 states and free public spaces in the 32 states. Because the World Cup will also be experienced in the neighborhoods, in the colonies and in every corner where Mexico’s soccer heart beats.
This sport, in the end, is a reflection of what we are: a country that gets excited, that competes, that celebrates and that never stops fighting. Therefore, the 2026 championship will be a showcase to show the world our passion for sport, but also our history, our culture and our warmth.
Mexico is not only the headquarters of the World Cup, it is the cradle of the ancestral ball game, of the collective spirit and of shared joy, and the President has been clear in stating that this event must serve to strengthen the social fabric, generate jobs and promote tourism, prosperity and peace.
And she will be fulfilling, because by donating her ticket for the inaugural game to a Mexican girl, she sends a strong message: the future of the country belongs to the new generations, and they must be the protagonists of the great moments in our history.
More than a million people registered as volunteers to participate in the organization of the World Cup. Young people who want to contribute, learn and be part of something this big. That is the strength of our people: the one that does not wait to be told what to do, but rather puts on the shirt and acts.
The 2026 World Cup will be more than a mere sporting spectacle. It will be an example of what a country can achieve when it governs with a social vision, when it is planned with people in mind and when development is also measured in opportunities and hope.
Mexico is ready to welcome the world, but, above all, to prove to itself that it can win much more than a game; you can gain a future, well-being and shared prosperity.
