By repudiating the harassment that President Claudia Sheinbaum suffered yesterday afternoon in the streets of the Historic Center of Mexico City (CDMX), the Women’s Secretariat of the Government of Mexico, the Women’s Instances in the Federal Entities (IMEFs) and the presidents of the Gender Equality Commission in the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic They called on people not to reproduce content that violates the integrity of women, adolescents and girls.
In a statement, 35 Mexican government officials condemned the violence against Sheinbaum Pardo and assured that her closeness to the people cannot be interpreted as an occasion to invade her personal space, nor to commit any type of physical contact without consent.

“It is essential that men understand that these types of acts not only violate women, but are also a crime,” they expressed.
In addition to this, they highlighted that this type of violence should not be trivialized, but that reporting it is essential to achieve justice and contribute to a cultural change, “which also involves the way in which they are addressed by the media and in our daily conversations.”
Given this, they called on this event not to be used to re-victimize any woman, girl or adolescent who has suffered an act of violence, as well as on traditional media and digital platforms not to reproduce content that threatens the integrity of women, adolescents and girls.

“As we have said on several occasions, reproducing is re-victimizing and it is essential to adopt the gender perspective and respect for the human rights of all people in media coverage,” they said.
“We reiterate our commitment to continue working daily and strengthen women’s rights, as well as eliminate the decades of machismo and violence that we face every day”they added.
In addition, they externalized the women who “count on us through the plans, programs and public policies of direct attention to women that exist in all the states of the country and that are coordinated between the three levels of government, as well as the strategies conducted by the Government of Mexico.”
“Never again will a woman be alone or without answers! In this time of women, we are convinced that a new way of living together between men and women is possible and necessary for a more just and equal Mexico,” they concluded.
