MEXICO CITY.- So far this year the number of political figures have been victims of a fatal attack, it already exceeds 100 and the case of Carlos Manzomunicipal president of Uruapan who was killed over the weekend by armed individuals in a public space.
These incidents called political violenceAccording to the consulting firm Integralia, until the first half of 2025, 112 murders were recorded against public officials and politicians.
The violence report indicated that 28 of these cases occurred in June, as the period of highest incidence. In the months of January and May there were 18 cases per month, while from February to April 16 incidents were recorded.
Manzo’s death occurred after a gun attack while attending the Candle Festival.
Other cases were the murders of Ximena Guzmán and José Muñoz, private secretary and advisor, respectively, of the head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada.
Alejandro Arcos Catalán was elected municipal president of Chilpancingo and was murdered days after taking office. The same thing happened with Román Ruiz Bohórquez, mayor of Candelaria, Oaxaca.
Mario Hernández García, mayor of Amoltepec, Oaxaca; Isaías Rojas Ramírez from Cotija, Michoacán; Salvador Bastida of Tacámbaro, Michoacán; Acasio Flores from Malinaltepec, Guerrero and Miguel Bahena from Pisaflores, Hidalgo are other murdered mayors.
