A Spanish report revealed that Barcelona refused to sign the young Brazilian star Estévao, the current Chelsea player, who gave a remarkable performance against the Blaugrana in the Champions League.

Yesterday, Estevao scored a goal against Barcelona during the match that ended with Chelsea’s 3-0 victory and took place at Stamford Bridge in the fifth round of the league stage.

The Spanish newspaper “Sport” reported that Barcelona sporting director Deco had placed Estévao among his priorities, but the Catalan club later refused to enter the auction despite the Brazilian player’s desire to come.

Estévão was one of the stream of distinguished players followed by Barcelona, and for sporting and financial reasons, the Catalan club’s management refused to complete the deal.

This happened in the summer of 2024, during which Barcelona did not submit any financial offer to include Estevao from his former club, Palmeiras, because he would not get a place in the team and because the value of the deal exceeded 40 million euros, as the same newspaper reported.

Regarding the sporting reason, the Brazilian (18 years old) plays in the same position as Lamine Jamal, and therefore it would not be logical for Barcelona to bet on a young talent who will not have the opportunity to play, given that confidence has been given to the second.

Despite this, Estévão’s agent, Andre Cory, tried to convince Barcelona that his client was capable of playing in a late position, even as a playmaker, but the Blaugrana was not convinced.

As for the financial reason, Barcelona had priority in including the player ahead of the offers of English Premier League clubs, and his surroundings expressed their willingness to reduce the price if the club decided to include him, but the Blaugrana made its final decision in January 2024.

Chelsea kidnapped the Brazilian talent

After Barcelona’s refusal, competition began between clubs wishing to include Estevao, until Chelsea obtained his services in July of last year for 45 million euros in addition to another 16.5 million as variables.

It was then agreed that the player would arrive at Chelsea in 2025 after he turned 18, and since his arrival in London, his adaptation process has been “amazing, and it seems that he is on his way to becoming a big star.”

According to the newspaper, Estevao expressed a public desire to play for Barcelona on several previous occasions, but his dream is now far away due to his association with Chelsea with a long-term contract extending until the summer of 2033.
