Facing the Generation Z march called for this Sunday, December 14 in Mexico City, the former president Vicente Fox Quesada called on citizens to get involved actively in the discussion and attention to the public affairs of the country.
Through a message addressed to society, he maintained that Mexico is going through a moment in which the participation of citizen leadership is required, beyond the actions of the ruling class.
Through a video message broadcast on social networksthe former president affirmed that the country needs “truth and dignity,” and not a narrative based on constant propaganda. In that sense, he stressed the importance of citizens assuming a more active role in public life and contributing, from different spaces, to the construction of the country.
“It is the time for citizen leaders, not for disconnected mediocre rulers. The first star and actor is you and I invite you to work for Mexico”he expressed.
In a message alongside his publication, the former PAN leader who governed Mexican territory between 2000 and 2006, wrote that: “Mexico is not tired. It is awake. This video is not a memory of the past, it is a call to the present. When the citizen participates, Mexico advances. When there are values, there is direction. When one walks without fear, there is a future. Today it’s not time to complain. It’s time to get involved. It’s time to take a step forward. Because this country is not saved by a government, it is saved by its people. If possible. And yes it is with you.”

Besides, In his video message he shared three things that, he claims, he learned as president. The first of them is that “when a government stops listening, the country stagnates.” As an example, he said that “we see it today” because there are “decisions made from a desk without seeing the reality of the people.”
As a second point, he added that when one governs from fear, freedom shrinks and that informed citizens are not controlled with speeches. Finally, he considered that a country that abandons fundamental values ends up divided. “Mexico needs truth, it needs dignity and not everyday propaganda,” he added.
His words occur hours before the call to make a new March of Generation Z in the country’s capital, which is called at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 14 at the Angel of Independence and heading to the capital’s Zócalo.
