The United States presented Ukraine with a package of proposals to end the war imposed by Russia.

This package of proposals, of 28 points, includes the transfer of territories and the non-use of some weapons, advances the Reuters.

Sources familiar with the process, who asked not to be identified due to the sensitivity of the matter, said the proposals also include reducing the size of the Ukrainian armed forces, among other things. Washington wants Kiev to accept the main points.

A plan of this type would represent a major setback for Ukraine, which is facing new Russian territorial advances in the east of the country, at a time when President Zelensky is dealing with a corruption scandal that culminated this Wednesday in the dismissal of the Ministers of Energy and Justice.

A senior Ukrainian official previously told Reuters that Ukraine had received “signals” about a set of US proposals to end the war that Washington discussed with Russia. Ukraine had no role in drafting the proposals, the source said at the time.

Zelensky met in Türkiye this Wednesday with President Tayyip Erdogan and is expected to meet with US Army officials in Kiev on Thursday.

Since July there have been no face-to-face negotiations between Ukraine and Russia. Efforts to revive peace talks appear to be gaining momentum, although Moscow has shown no intention of changing its terms to end the war.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has long demanded that Ukraine renounce plans to join NATO and withdraw its troops from four provinces that Moscow claims as part of Russia. The Kremlin has given no indication that it has waived any of these demands, while Ukraine says it will not accept them.
