There is currently uncertainty at the Ford factory in Saarlouis about the final production stop of the Ford Focus. The original plan was for the last vehicle to leave the production line on November 21st. But due to delays caused by missing parts, the exact date is now unclear. A Ford spokesman confirmed that the last Focus should still roll off the assembly line this Friday, but the final decision is not expected until Monday.
Since the factory opened in 1970, over 15 million vehicles have been produced in Saarlouis. The decision to end production of the Ford Focus was made back in June 2022, when Ford announced that the Valencia factory would be given priority for the production of a new electric car platform. This decision hit hard for the workforce, which at the time still consisted of 4,600 employees.
There are currently 2,700 employees at the plant, the majority of whom are already on vacation. For 1,700 of them, work will finally end on November 28th. The remaining 1,000 employees will continue to work at the factory from December 1st to produce components and spare parts for Ford in Europe.
There are special plans for the last two vehicles that will be produced in Saarlouis. One of them will be given to the city of Saarlouis for the local museum, while the other will be raffled off among the employees. The proceeds from this raffle will go to a good cause. These measures are intended to make it a little easier to say goodbye to the long-standing production facility.
