The Secretariat of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT) will present to the Chamber of Deputies a reform initiative to allow Uber, Didi and application taxis operate at the country’s airports during the 2026 Soccer World Cup.
According to sources from the Mobility Commission in the Chamber of Deputies, the federal agency will propose to modify the Law of Roads, Bridges and Federal Motor Transportation, and the Regulation of Federal Motor Transportation and Auxiliary Services, with the objective of issuing special rules and facilitating the operation of these platforms in accordance with their business plan.
The reform proposes granting a global permit that includes all taxis covered by their respective platforms. It also proposes that, to provide the service, Federal license plates are not required for vehicles or federal licenses for drivers. Added to this is the possibility of allowing platforms to apply dynamic rates.
It is expected that the SICT project will be submitted to the Congress of the Union to be discussed in the current legislative period. If approved, the intention is that it can come into force before the start of the 2026 Soccer World Cup. Legislative sources indicated that the objective is for this specific regulation to accompany the arrival of visitors and the demand for air and land mobility generated by this type of events.
The proposal contemplates that authorized taxis continue with the current compensation, and that the airports indirectly decide which taxi applications will operate at each airport.
