The president of the United States, Donald Trump, insisted on the possibility of launching attacks against criminal groups in Mexico with the aim of stopping fentanyl trafficking into its territory.
In an interview with Politico, Trump was asked about the reason why he is concentrating efforts against Venezuela, when the fentanyl that reaches the United States is produced in Mexico, with precursors from China, while Venezuela “is not a source or a significant transit country” of that drug, according to analyzes by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

Trump does not rule out launching attacks on Mexico
Journalist Dasha Burns then asked Trump: “Would you consider doing something similar with Mexico and Colombia, which are most responsible for trafficking fentanyl to the United States?”
Trump responded: “Yes, I would. Sure. I would.”
Last November, Trump already said that he did not rule out launching attacks in Mexico against the drug cartels.

During an event at the White House, a journalist asked him if he considers launching attacks on Mexico or putting US troops or personnel in Mexico to combat drug trafficking, Trump responded: “What if he would launch attacks in Mexico to stop drugs? That’s fine with me!” Then he said: “We will do whatever it takes to stop the drugs.”. And he added: “If we have to do there what we have done in the water… There are almost no drugs coming by sea.”
In contrast, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has ruled out the possibility of taking unilateral measures against cartels in Mexico.
“We are willing to give them all the help they need. Obviously, they don’t want us to take action, We are not going to take unilateral action or send US forces to Mexico, but we can help them with equipment, training, intelligence sharing and any kind of help we can offer if they request it. “They have to ask for it.”he said recently.
