Toluca He was shocked again by the recklessness of his own police. On Thursday night, a patrol Special Operations Group (GOE)which was traveling at excess speed and without emergency lights, unleashed a tragedy when it hit a motorcycle and three private cars.
The victim was Luisa Fernandaa young woman of barely 20 years old, who died instantly when she was run over by the official unit.
The accident occurred around 8:00 p.m., on Solidaridad Las Torres Avenue, next to the El Insurgente Train. Witnesses reported that the municipal patrol was going “like a bullet,” zigzagging between the cars before losing control. The initial blow was against the victim’s motorcycle; Later, the police unit crashed into a red Volkswagen Gol, a black Hyundai and a Chevrolet truck, leaving a trail of destruction. The motorcycle was embedded in the train’s cyclone mesh.
“It was terrifying; we heard a roar and saw the motorcycle fly. The patrol didn’t even have its turrets on,” said Roberto Hernández, a local merchant, visibly indignant.
Minutes after the accident, dozens of neighbors took to the streets demanding justice and shouting slogans against the police officers involved, whom they tried to attack. The tension forced the arrival of municipal reinforcements to prevent a lynching.
Luisa Fernanda’s name resonated strongly among witnesses, since months ago her image went viral during a feminist march, where she held a banner that said: “I want my family to receive my university degree, not my death certificate.” Today, that phrase became a painful irony for her family, who must say goodbye to her instead of celebrating her graduation.
The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico (FGJEM) reported that it began an investigation for manslaughter and abuse of authority. For his part, the mayor Ricardo Moreno Bastida confirmed the immediate suspension of the three agents involved and their delivery to the Public Ministry, ensuring that there will be no impunity.
