Mexico City.- Almost five years after a relationship they built in search of being the opposition of the ruling party, the National Action Party (PAN) and the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI) They have broken the alliance that will be marked by disagreements and painful defeats.
This relationship of love and hate began on December 21, 2020, when the parties announced an unprecedented agreement to compete together in 180 of the 300 federal electoral districts in the country, under the name Goes through Mexico.
This union consisted of “building a better future” for Mexicans, “recovering economic growth, the rule of law and democratic order,” in addition to stopping the wave of workerism that in Morena found a commitment supported by the majority of Mexicans.
The coalition participated in 219 of the 300 federal districts and obtained around 19.4 million votes, with relevant representation in the Chamber of Deputies, although without recovering the legislative majority. At the state level, in the 2022 elections, the alliance competed in six governorships and only achieved victories in Aguascalientes and Durango.
By 2023, the coalition was reconfigured under the name Strength and Heart by Mexico for the 2024 elections. In that contest, the PAN-PRI-PRD bloc only retained one governorship, although it maintained a presence in some state capitals and urban municipalities.
Faced with so much wear and tear and no results together, both parties chose to put things in between until they made it clear that each one will carry out their movement alone.
The president of the PRI, Alejandro Moreno, He mentioned that “what cannot be allowed is that today they want to use a speech to say that they would not go with the PRI to wash their face” and assured that “the one who dirty the face of the PAN, who called it corrupt, cynical and cowardly,” was Morena.
And the leader of the National Action Party (PAN), Jorge Romero Herrerawould have announced the end of party alliances, declaring that a new stage begins in which the blue and white will bet on its own political identity and on recovering citizen trust.
“Today we begin a new era in which the future of National Action does not and will not depend on any partisan alliance, neither past, present, nor future,” he stated during his speech in front of hundreds of PAN members who gathered for the announcement.
