PeerDAS allows nodes to verify only smaller pieces of data distributed across the network, rather than downloading entire blocks of data. Layer 2 requires cheap and reliable storage on Layer 1, while Layer 1 needs to be fairly compensated for providing that storage. Early indications suggest that the pool of pending transactions has already reduced, reflecting the changes activated before the upgrade. The developers emphasize that the upgrade is designed to stay within the limits of what is possible with off-the-shelf hardware to ensure that smaller operators are not left out.
