Jack Della Maddalena will make his first defense of the UFC middleweight title in New York City, believing that his boxing skills will carry him to victory over the strong Russian wrestler Islam Makhachev.

Della Maddalena (18-2) will try to deprive Makhachev (27-1) of the honor of being the eleventh UFC champion in two divisions when the two fighters meet inside the Octagon at UFC 322.

But the Australian wrestler faces a strong challenge to do so, as Makhachev has long confirmed that he would be more comfortable in the welterweight division, while the Dagestani also has the longest active winning streak in the UFC tournament with 15 victories.

Date and timing for Makhachev’s fight against Della Maddalena at UFC 322

The historic fight will take place on Sunday, November 16, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The main event begins at six in the morning Doha and Mecca time (3 am GMT), with the early preliminary card starting at four in the morning.

Della Maddalena is achieving a remarkable series of victories of 18 matches, 8 of which were in the UFC championship, the last of which was his victory just 6 months ago when he snatched the belt from the Palestinian-American Bilal Muhammad, who was defending his title for the first time.

His all-round skills are key to his rise to the welterweight title and the Australian believes that attack is the best form of defence.

The former lightweight titleholder, Makhachev, is looking forward to becoming a champion in two different weight divisions and extending his winning streak to 16 fights.

The 34-year-old Russian has four successful victories in defending his lightweight throne, including a submission win over Renato Moicano in January.

Makhachev has not been defeated since his loss to Adriano Martinez in October 2015 on UFC 192, 9 years ago.

If the Dagestani wins over Della Maddalena, he will equal Anderson Silva’s record as the longest winning streak in UFC history.

In another women’s flyweight title bout, Shevchenko (25-4-1) seeks her third straight win. The 37-year-old Thai boxing specialist defeated Alexa Grasso in the UFC 306 tournament in September 2024, to regain the top spot in the rankings. She maintained her title with a unanimous victory over Manon Viorot last May.

Zhang (26-3-0), a two-time women’s strawweight champion, relinquished her title to compete for flyweight gold. Her victory on Sunday morning will mark the sixth consecutive victory for the 36-year-old Black Tiger Queen of Beijing.
