The Wet token presale on the Solana blockchain was disrupted by a massive Sybil attack, in which a bot network used over 1,000 wallets to dominate the sale. This action resulted in real buyers having no chance to participate in the sale as a single actor controlled the entire pre-sale. The automated market platform HumidiFi, which organized the pre-sale, confirmed the attack and decided to cancel the launch completely.
HumidiFi now plans to create a new token and airdrop to legitimate participants while explicitly excluding the attacker. The company explained that all Wetlist and JUP Staker buyers will receive a prorated airdrop allocation. The new public sale is scheduled for Monday. These measures are intended to ensure that advance sales are fair and transparent.
Blockchain analytics platform Bubblemaps identified the suspected attacker after observing unusual wallet clusters during token sales. At least 1,100 of the 1,530 participating wallets showed identical funding and activity patterns, suggesting they were controlled by a single actor. These wallets were funded with similar Solana amounts in a narrow time frame, indicating a coordinated effort.
Such Sybil attacks are not new in the cryptocurrency world and pose a significant threat to the security of token sales. Experts recommend that projects should implement measures such as Know-Your-Customer (KYC) or algorithms to detect Sybil activity. These attacks demonstrate the importance of taking security measures to ensure the integrity of token sales.
