A German court in Celle, in Lower Saxony, decided this Monday, November 10, to authorize the departure from Germany of the main suspect in the disappearance in 2007 of the British girl Madeleine McCann, in Praia da Luz, in the Algarve.

Christian Brueckner can travel across Europe using his national identity document, although other restrictions imposed after serving a prison sentence for rape and other crimes remain in force.

He will also be required to wear an electronic bracelet and report regularly to his probation officer while the court in Hildesheim, also in Lower Saxony, decides on his new residence rules.

You may be temporarily banned from leaving Germany “to resolve technical issues” or from staying in certain regions.

His lawyer previously appealed the conditions imposed on his client, alleging the existence of a “huge campaign of prejudice” during the long legal process.

Madeleine McCann was three years old when she disappeared, during a family holiday, from an apartment complex in Praia da Luz, in Lagos, Algarve.
