The Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) confirmed that yesterday Simón Levy was arrested in Portugal and will face his extradition process to Mexico.
“Within the framework of international cooperation mechanisms, yesterday the Government of Mexico was notified by the Portuguese authorities about the arrest of Simón ‘N’derived from an Interpol Red Notice, due to the existence of two arrest warrants in force against him, related to criminal proceedings for crimes against the environment and responsibility for construction work, as well as for threats and damage to other people’s property,” the agency detailed in a statement.
In turn, he reported that after this and being presented to the local authority, the Lisbon Court of Appeals “ordered his release, imposing precautionary measures, including permanence and identity control, while his nationality status is verified and his surrender to the Mexican authorities is resolved.”
At the same time, it was detailed that the Government of Mexico is in communication with the Portuguese authorities to follow up on the case, in accordance with international cooperation and extradition mechanisms.
Prior to this, the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City (FGJCDMX) reported that the former federal official “chose to face the formal extradition process, in accordance with the legislation of that country, subject to precautionary measures of permanence and identity control (Termo de Identidade e Residência), while their nationality status is verified and their surrender to the Mexican authorities is resolved.”

While, in the morning, President Claudia Sheinbaum confirmed the arrest of the businessman, wanted for an accusation against him filed in the FGJCDMX.
“It seems so, in Portugal, I think. And it is from a file, from a complaint that an individual filed against him, some time ago in Mexico City,” he said.
Moments before, the Attorney General’s Office of Mexico City (FGJCDMX) issued an information sheet in which it reported that “the detention was the result of an immigration alert activated due to the detainee’s travel abroad.”
Federal sources consulted by this newspaper indicated that the arrest took place in Portugal.
Likewise, it was reported that the person detained today no longer has the protection of the amparo that he processed in 2022.
Of the arrest warrants against Levy, it was indicated that the first dates back to December 2021, when he was accused of alleged crimes against the environment and responsibility of directors responsible for construction for the construction of a property that violated regulations, and that he did not appear at the hearings called in 2022 and 2025.
Due to the above, an arrest warrant was issued against him and, although he obtained an amparo in 2022, it was void, since he did not appear at the indictment hearing.
The second order against him began in November 2021 for threats and intentional damage to other people’s property, and that the accused missed hearings between December 2021 and October 2022, which generated an arrest warrant on August 4, 2022, which remains in force.
