After with 97 votes in favor, 19 against and 11 invalid votes, the Senate approved this Wednesday the appointment of Ernestina Godoy as the new head of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) for a period of nine years, President Claudia Sheinbaum reacted to this election in her morning conference this Thursday.
“Ernestina is a woman, as I said the other day, honest, a great professional in her work, that is, she does it with professionalism, with a lot of integrity and she knows the subject, because she was attorney general in CDMX. So I think this approval will be very good for the country,” Sheinbaum declared.
The President highlighted the approval of Godoy before the Senate, obtaining 97 votes in favor.

Sheinbaum assured that now there will be more coordination between the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, the Attorney General’s Office and the National Guard. “We hope that she will be a leader in strengthening the relationship with the state prosecutors’ offices. So congratulations to Ernestina Godoy, we were very pleased,” expressed the President.
About the process of electing the head of the FGR
Sheinbaum sent to the Senate on December 3 a shortlist made up of women who—in his opinion—met the requirements to head the FGR: Ernestina Godoy, former prosecutor of Mexico City; Luz María Zarza Delgado, former candidate number 33 for minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation in 2024; and Maribel Bojorges, who worked as an investigator in the capital’s Prosecutor’s Office.
The three candidates appeared before the Senate plenary session to present their work plans and receive questions from the members of the different benches.
Godoy’s plan
In her appearance, Ernestina Godoy explained that a large part of her work plan is intended to prioritize the coordination strategy with various institutions to combat different types of crimes.; strengthening investigations with intelligence; improvement in victim care; zero tolerance for torture; the professionalization of the Public Ministry; work in compliance with current standards; and stressed that the FGR will be impartial in its functions.

“No one will be accused unjustly.”because in the administration of justice there is no room – not even remotely – for partial actions. There will be no political persecution, but there will be no impunity either,” he warned.
Once elected as the new prosecutor, in her message on social network Godoy Ramos pledged to fight corruption in a coordinated, professional and relentless manner, considering that “a prosecutor’s office that acts alone is destined to fail.”
He pointed out that coordination between the security cabinet and the states is necessary to address the causes of violence, strengthen intelligence and investigation work, with unrestricted respect for the autonomy and independence of the different participating institutions, in the three levels of government.
