Mexico admits that “there is no date” to restart livestock exports to the US due to plague
Sheinbaum acknowledged that there is still no date to resume the export of livestock to the United States, suspended due to the screwworm plague. He noted progress in the eradication and construction of a sterile fly plant that will be ready in 2026. Both governments are working to establish clear technical criteria to reopen the border without unforeseen closures. The closure has caused losses of up to $1.3 billion for the Mexican livestock sector.
Carlos Manzo’s attacker has not yet been identified: Sheinbaum
Although versions point to a young man nicknamed “El Cuate” as responsible for the murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Sheinbaum clarified that the aggressor has not yet been officially identified. He indicated that the security cabinet supports the investigations of the Michoacán Prosecutor’s Office and did not rule out that the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic will attract the case if it is considered necessary.
Sheinbaum affirms that “US attacks against cartels in Mexico are not going to happen”
The President denied that the United States has plans to carry out military attacks in Mexico against drug trafficking cartels. He assured that there is a security cooperation agreement with the US government, reached with the Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, and that both countries will continue working under that framework of understanding.
Sheinbaum presents “Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice”
After the murder of the mayor of Uruapan, Claudia Sheinbaum announced the Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice, a comprehensive strategy to reduce violence and strengthen the presence of the State. The plan includes reinforcing security with the National Guard, creating joint units against homicides and extortion, a specialized prosecutor’s office, and fortnightly security tables. It also contemplates economic, educational and cultural measures to promote peace and social development.
