This Tuesday, during “The Morning“, President Claudia Sheinbaum presented the statistical data related to intentional homicides in Mexico since the six-year term of Felipe Calderón (2006 – 2012). He highlighted that during his current Administration, this crime has decreased by 37% thanks to the National Security Strategy.
The President shared that, until the end of the Calderón administration, daily intentional homicides increased by 148%; in the six-year term Enrique Peña Nieto (2012 – 2018)this crime had a 42% increase; He stressed that, after the beginning of the government of Andrés Manuel López Obrador In 2018, intentional homicides fell 9% until the end of his six-year term; while in the current mandate of the National Regeneration Movement (Morena)with Claudia Sheinbaum at the helm, This crime has decreased by 28% in his first 13 months in office.

“By 2012, Calderón’s last year, homicides increased 148%, a result of the so-called “War on Drugs”; […] From the last year of Calderón to the last year of Peña Nieto, an increase in intentional homicides of 42%; in reality, the strategy was practically the same.
“From September 2024 to October 2025, […] Since our arrival on October 1st, […] a reduction in intentional homicides of 37%“said the President.
Sheinbaum assured that the decrease in daily intentional homicides is thanks to the National Security Strategy which is governed by two “arms“: attention to the causes, which consists of serving young people, providing education, culture, sports, and the implementation of the programs of the Ministry of Welfare; and also the “zero impunity“, through which research strategies and coordination between the federal and local authorities of the entities are strengthened.
Son “32 fewer homicides daily“said the President, while ensuring that the information to generate the statistics comes from the reports issued by the State Prosecutor’s Offices of the 32 states.
