San Antonio will become the center of the space world in 2026 when the city hosts the Texas Space Summit. This event, taking place September 21-23, 2026, will highlight Texas’ growing importance in the commercial space industry. Under the theme “Land Here, Go Beyond,” the summit will highlight efforts to expand Texas’ role in the space economy and showcase strengthening the supply chain that powers the nation’s future in space.

The event is organized by the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce and attracts leaders in the space industry, including representatives from the U.S. Department of Defense, NASA and leading Texas space companies. Attendees will be able to experience live demonstrations and scale models of launch systems, satellites, robotics and life support technologies. Immersive exhibitions will bring space missions to life, including lunar bases and Mars simulations.

Jeff Webster, President and CEO of the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the event’s importance to the region: “The San Antonio region has a long history in aerospace, and we are pleased to host the 2026 Texas Space Summit. This meeting strengthens Texas’ role in the commercial space economy and promotes the development of a supply chain that creates quality jobs and investment in our state.”

NASA plans to deorbit the International Space Station in 2030 and transition to commercially operated stations. This transition period has attracted over $400 million in investments and presents numerous opportunities in Texas and the United States. Adam Hamilton, CEO of Southwest Research Institute, said, “Texas has always been a pioneering state – bold, visionary and fearless to reach the stars. We are proud to carry that spirit forward and lead groundbreaking space missions.”

The space economy could reach $1.8 trillion by 2035, with every dollar invested returning three to seven times its value to Texas. The state is already home to major space organizations such as Blue Origin, SpaceX, NASA and Firefly Aerospace, which employ more than 150,000 Texans. Gwen Griffin of the Texas Space Commission emphasized that Texas’ space economy is not concentrated in one city but is spread throughout the state.
