The singer-songwriter, poet and musician, a trova/rock icon for almost 50 years, Joaquin Sabinasaid goodbye in his homeland, in the city of Madrid, before an audience that brought together personalities from entertainment, politics and art; in addition to his family, friends and 12 thousand fans who filled every last space of the Movistar Arena
IT MOVED TO TEARS
This concert with which he closed his tour “Hello and goodbye” and which was to say goodbye to the stages, involved 71 concerts and 700 thousand tickets sold.
“This concert in Madrid is the last of my life and therefore the most important. The one that in a few years I will remember with the most emotion,” he expressed.
Among the famous attendees were: Victor Manuel and Ana Belén, Ara Malikian, Alejo Estivel and Vanesa Martín.
On Sunday and only nine minutes after the indicated time, Sabina jumped on stage “Tonight the tour ‘Hello and goodbye’ that passed through half the world, it’s just called ‘goodbye’, he said with a broken voice, and the screening of ‘A Last Waltz began, then he started with ‘Yo me get off in Atocha, a tribute to Madrid, and he has continued with classics like, Marble Tears, I Deny Everything and White Lies. The communion between the public and the artist has been total: thousands of voices have chanted each verse, transforming the concert into an authentic collective celebration.
The atmosphere in the venue was of unusual intensity. The excitement increased, especially when songs like ‘Now that’, ‘Calle Melancolía’, ’19 days and 500 nights’, ‘On the boulevard of broken dreams’, as well as more energetic songs like ‘Tan young and so old’, ‘Contigo’ and ‘Princesa’ were played.
During the artist’s breaks, his bandmates took center stage: Jaime Asúa performed ‘Agreement between Gentlemen’, Mara Barros dazzled with ‘Camas vacancies’ and Antonio García de Diego offered an emotional version of ‘The most beautiful song in the world’.
In total he sang 23 songs, four of which were sung by his band. Of the most applauded were ‘Calle Melancolía’, which he said he took from a trunk of semi-forgotten songs for this tour.
THE FAREWELL
At the end of the concert, Sabina He greeted the audience with his characteristic hat and left the stage on the side, while ‘The Song of the (Good) Drunkards’ was playing. The emotion was visible in both the artist and the attendees, some of whom have claimed to have seen tears on the musician’s face. After the recital, Sabina He received his friends in a room on the premises for a more intimate celebration.
