Ryanair, Europe’s leading low-cost airline, recently raised its passenger forecast for the financial year ending March 2026 to 207 million passengers. This corresponds to an increase of over three percent compared to the previous year and exceeds previous expectations by one million passengers. This optimistic assessment comes despite the ongoing challenges caused by delivery delays from US aircraft manufacturer Boeing, which have repeatedly led to adjustments to growth plans in recent years.
In the second quarter, which runs from July to the end of September, Ryanair recorded significant increases in sales and profits. The number of passengers rose by two percent year-on-year to 61.2 million, while sales increased by eight percent to almost 5.5 billion euros in the busiest travel season of the year. The surplus even climbed by a fifth to a good 1.7 billion euros. These numbers demonstrate robust demand for affordable air travel, despite supply chain challenges.
Ticket prices have stabilized again after a decline in the last summer quarter and have reached the level of summer 2023. This shows that Ryanair is able to make price adjustments to stimulate demand while maintaining profitability. However, CEO Michael O’Leary was cautious about a profit forecast for the current financial year, which is due to the uncertainties surrounding Boeing deliveries.
Boeing’s aircraft delivery delays have repeatedly forced Ryanair to rethink its expansion plans in recent years.
