Rheinmetall, Germany’s leading arms company, has set itself ambitious growth targets. The company plans to increase its sales to 50 billion euros by 2030. These plans were recently presented by CEO Armin Papperger at the company’s location in Unterlüß, Lower Saxony. The group is benefiting from increasing demand for defense equipment, fueled by international tensions and NATO orders.

A key driver of growth is increasing global tensions, which are leading to increased demand for artillery, ammunition and armament systems. NATO countries in particular, including Germany, are upgrading their stocks in order to be prepared for potential threats. Germany’s defense budget is expected to increase significantly from 2025, which offers Rheinmetall additional growth opportunities.

Internally, Rheinmetall is significantly optimizing its production capacities. Among other things, the plan is to increase the production of tank ammunition from 60,000 to 240,000 rounds by 2027. Growth is particularly dynamic in artillery ammunition, where an increase of around 20-fold is expected. These production increases are part of the company’s strategic realignment.

Another important step in the strategic realignment is the separation from the weakening auto parts business. Rheinmetall plans to concentrate entirely on the defense division and sell the civilian arm by the middle of next year. This focus on the defense sector is intended to help the company achieve its ambitious growth goals.

Armin Papperger is convinced that the need for military equipment will remain high beyond 2030. The NATO countries want to continue to strengthen their military posture, which offers Rheinmetall stable long-term growth opportunities. This strategic direction could make the company an even more significant player in the global defense market.
