In a recent warning, Lidl and Italian supplier Sicily Food have removed the “Zanzibar Deluxe Tuna Carpaccio” from sale. The reason for this recall is Listeria, which was detected in samples of the product. These bacteria can cause severe gastrointestinal illness and flu-like symptoms. Pregnant women, newborns, older people and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk, for whom an infection can, in the worst case, lead to blood poisoning or meningitis.

The recall specifically affects the consumption dates December 27th, 2025, December 28th, 2025 and December 29th, 2025. The affected tuna carpaccio was sold in Lidl stores in eleven federal states, including Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein and Thuringia. Lidl and Sicily Food immediately removed the product from sale and strongly advise against consuming it.

Consumers who have already purchased the carpaccio should check the consumption data on the packaging. If you have an affected product, you can return it to any Lidl branch. The purchase price will be refunded even without presenting a receipt, as stated in the customer information. This measure underlines the seriousness of the situation and the responsibility of companies towards their customers.

The listeria was discovered during controls by Sicily Food. Listeria monocytogenes, the detected bacterial species, is known for its ability to survive and multiply in refrigerated foods. These properties make them particularly dangerous because they can also appear in products that are considered safe. The incident sheds light on the need for stricter food safety controls and measures to minimize such risks in the future.
