At issue are statements by Ana Paula Martins, who said in the Assembly of the Republic, on Friday, when questioned by deputies, that the pregnant woman who died, aged 36, had not had prior follow-up at the hospital.
On Sunday, the administration of ULS Amadora-Sintra acknowledged that the pregnant woman who died, after being discharged days earlier, had been monitored in primary health care since July.
On that day, in a statement, the board of directors of the Amadora-Sintra Local Health Unit (ULSASI) revealed that, “due to the lack of a fully integrated clinical information system, which allows the automatic sharing of data and medical records between the different services and units […]” it was only on Sunday late afternoon that it was possible to verify that the user had been monitored since July, at the ULSASI Personalized Health Care Unit of Agualva.
The administration of that ULS highlighted that information about monitoring since July was transmitted to the Minister of Health, Ana Paula Martins, on Sunday.
In statements to SIC and CMTV, the woman’s family had already assured that the pregnancy was being monitored at that health unit.
ULS Amadora-Sintra explained, in a statement, that the 38-week pregnant woman, from Guinea-Bissau, was admitted to the emergency department at around 1:50 am on Friday, transported by a team from the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM), in a situation of cardiorespiratory arrest.
The baby was born by an emergency cesarean section at the Amadora/Sintra Local Health Unit and died on Saturday morning.
The hospital opened an internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of the pregnant woman who was at the hospital on Wednesday for a consultation, in which hypertension was detected, the institution announced.
The General Inspectorate of Health Activities (IGAS) also initiated an inquiry process to evaluate ULS Amadora-Sintra assistance.
The Health Regulatory Authority (ERS) also announced the opening of an evaluation process with the same objective, meaning the two bodies will collaborate “in order to obtain all the necessary clarifications in a complementary manner”.
