With the arrival of autumn and the drop in temperatures, the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) warned that the summer subsidy that benefited several states in the country will end on October 31, which could cause many households to experience an increase in their electricity bill.
Therefore, the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) took on the task of researching and sharing a series of actions that can help maintain the CFE rate within the basic range.

It should be noted that all the alternatives presented by the public body are based on daily habits, the maintenance and use of household devices and appliances, so in many cases it will not be possible to follow all the recommendations, since they depend on the lifestyle and possibilities of each person.
However, If your goal is to save a little, it is important to identify which of these small actions can be adapted to your family and start implementing them constantly at your home.
Profeco recommendations to avoid leaving the basic CFE range
- Take advantage of natural light: During the day, and as far as possible, try to carry out your activities only with sunlight to reduce unnecessary use of artificial lighting.
- Change incandescent bulbs for LED or low-consumption lamps: Profeco points out that the change to LED lighting can reduce electricity consumption between 50% and 80%, depending on the type of bulb.
- Keep your spotlights and lamps clean: This avoids having to turn on more lights than necessary and allows them to operate more efficiently.
- Paint the interior walls light colors: Light walls reflect light, helping to better illuminate spaces and reducing the need to turn on lamps.
- Reduces phantom consumption: Some devices consume energy even when turned off, which can represent between 5% and 10% of household electricity costs. Therefore, it is recommended to disconnect chargers, televisions, consoles and other devices that contribute to this.
- Avoid standby mode: Do not leave appliances on “standby mode” for long periods, as this increases the bill.
Profeco highlights that these actions have a direct impact on the amount of the receiptin addition to pointing out which appliances consume the most energy and how to reduce their use.
- Fridge: Place it in a well-ventilated area, leaving between 5 and 8 centimeters of distance from the walls. Do not put hot food in and make sure the door gasket closes properly.
- Washer and dryer: Use the washing machine only with a full load, measure detergent appropriately so as not to require additional cycles, and, when possible, air dry clothes.
- Air-conditioning: Keep the filters clean and check the condition of the refrigerant gas; During use, close doors and windows, and try not to set temperatures that are too low to reduce energy consumption.

With these recommendations, both Profeco and CFE seek to promote energy savings, contribute to the economy of Mexicans and ensure that the federal subsidy is preserved.
Remember that if energy consumption exceeds the permitted limit, the subsidy is eliminated and the cost per kilowatt hour increases. Maintaining moderate electricity use helps preserve the basic rate and avoid switching to the DAC rate, where prices are much higher.
