The Portuguese Basketball Federation will involve the 21 clubs of the Portuguese Basketball League in an initiative to promote environmental practices.
The commitment, which also involves Betclic, aims to “integration of climate principles into the national basketball ecosystem”as can be seen in a statement from the two entities.
According to this agreement, over the next six months there must be an “evaluation of the environmental practices of all clubs, which will serve as the basis for a joint climate action plan, with clear goals and measurable indicators”.
This initiative was announced on National Basketball Day (November 6) and provides for five climate commitment principles: Promote environmental responsibility; Reduce global climate impact; Educate for climate action; Promote responsible consumption and Advocate for climate action through communication.
For the president of the Portuguese Basketball Federation, Manuel Fernandes, this is “a starting point for a new stage of Portuguese basketball. We want basketball to continue to grow, but in a responsible, conscious and sustainable way”.
As for Betclic Country Manager, Tiago Simões, “this membership reinforces Portuguese basketball’s commitment to climate action and building a more sustainable future for sport in Portugal.”
