The Portuguese under-20 rugby team became two-time European champions this Sunday, November 23, after defeating the Netherlands (29-17), in the final of that level’s Rugby Europe Championship, which was played in Prague.
Portugal arrived at half-time leading 19-3, thanks to a hat-trick of attempts by striker Enzo Fernandes (05, 17 and 32 minutes), two of which were converted by Tomás Marques.
The Netherlands reacted in the second half, with two attempts by their striker, in the 44th and 51st minutes, which reduced it to 19-17, but Portugal ‘sealed’ the triumph with a goal touch from Diego Ferreira (71), also converted by Marques, who also added a penalty (76).
In this way, the Portuguese team renewed the title won last year, against the same opponent and in the same location.
To reach the final, the ‘wolves’ eliminated Poland (63-0), in the quarter-finals, and the Czech Republic (60-3), in the semi-finals.
This was the fifth under-20 European champion title won by Portugal (2017, 2018, 2019, 2024, 2025), which also holds an under-19 title (2012), won before the change in age groups promoted by Rugby Europe from 2017 onwards.
