Pedro Nuno Santos once again turned to social media to make public comments with political consequences, calling what was seen at Lisbon Airport “chaos”. recalled that Montijo’s transitional solution was “revoked”, in this case by the former prime minister and fellow party member, António Costa. “In 2022 I was widely criticized and had an order revoked. But if it hadn’t been revoked, we could be opening Montijo airport next year”wrote the former socialist leader on social media.
“That is, in four years [a contar a partir do verão de 2022] we could have a new runway in Montijo and we would be in a position to relieve Humberto Delgado”, he retreats, considering: “The fundamental problem is that we have an airport that has been bursting at the seams for many years. There are no patches that solve a structural problem.”
The former general secretary and former Minister of Infrastructure reiterates that “Montenegro and Pinto Luz, more concerned with opposing the socialist government than with the future of the country, helped to block the situation”, noting that “they were not the only ones”he said, turning back to Costa.
Considering that there will be “chaos” in Humberto Delgado until 2037, “if all the deadlines go well, which I doubt”, Pedro Nuno Santos regrets that there will be no transition solution until Alcochete airport is completed.
At the end of June 2022, the socialist published an order with the aim of moving forward with work on the Montijo air base in 2023 so that the infrastructure would be ready in 2026 to operate in conjunction with Lisbon airport, until Alcochete airport is completed. A day later, Costa revoked the order.
Pedro Nuno Santos would remain in the position for approximately six more months, having resigned at the end of the year following the controversy surrounding the payment of compensation to TAP administrator Alexandra Reis.
