Anno 117: Pax Romana has exceeded the expectations of the gaming community with its impressive graphics and improved technical performance. Compared to previous installments in the series, particularly Anno 1800, Ubisoft Mainz has made significant strides in minimizing CPU load. This allows gamers to enjoy a smooth gaming experience even with older processors, while the graphics card takes on the brunt of the calculations.
The latest benchmarks from ComputerBase, which were carried out on an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090, show that even an older AMD Ryzen 5 3600 still achieves playable frame rates of 47 FPS. This is a significant improvement over Anno 1800, where the CPU was often a bottleneck. The tests were carried out with a 40-hour save game, which is considered an end-game scenario and thus tests the performance of the processors under high load.
Particularly noteworthy is the performance of the AMD Ryzen processors with 3D V-Cache, which are clearly ahead in the benchmarks. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D tops the rankings, followed by other Zen 5 models. These processors offer superior performance, which translates into higher frame rates. In comparison, Intel processors, particularly the current Arrow Lake generation, struggle to keep up with AMD’s top models.
The results of the benchmarks make it clear that Anno 117: Pax Romana does not require extremely powerful processors for an optimal gaming experience. Even in the endgame, the CPU load remains moderate, which is due to the technical improvements made by the developers. However, this could change once future DLCs are released, which may increase processor performance requirements.
