The Emirates group, owner of the largest airline in the Middle East, announced this Monday, the 17th, the order for 65 Boeing 777X aircraft worth 38 billion dollars (around 32 billion euros).
Deliveries are expected to begin from the second quarter of 2027 under this contract, which also included 130 GE9X engines from General Electric.
“It is a long-term commitment that supports hundreds of thousands of high-value-added jobs in the manufacturing industry”, commented the company’s president, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, at a press conference.
Emirates, fully controlled by the Government of Dubai, was already the largest customer for the Boeing 777, with 270 777X model aircraft, 10 freighters and 35 Boeing 787s on order.
The company has 315 large or long-haul Boeing aircraft on order, but regrets the successive delays in deliveries of the 777X model, which had already been postponed from 2025 to 2026.
“Some may have doubts about the large number of aircraft orders from Emirates, but each aircraft ordered has been carefully integrated into Emirates’ growth plans,” explained the airline’s manager.
Emirates is the most profitable airline in the world, having in the 2024-2025 fiscal year achieved a ‘record’ annual gross profit for the third consecutive year, reaching 6.2 billion dollars (around 5.5 billion euros), an increase of 18% compared to the previous year.
Boeing is facing, in addition to delays in deliveries, safety concerns and lawsuits following a series of accidents, including the one that killed 260 people last June with an Air India plane.
Delays in deliveries force Emirates to renew a large part of its fleet, including its Airbus A380s, which are no longer in production.
