As a spin-off to the main series, Pokémon Pokopia will introduce new forms for Pikachu and Snorlax, a first in the history of the series. At the end of an extensive new trailer, it was revealed that players will be able to welcome Peakychu and Mosslax to their cities when Pokopia launches for the Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5, 2026. However, the trailer doesn’t just focus on these new forms, but also provides an introduction to what Pokopia has to offer and what awaits players when they start their cities.
In Pokopia, players take control of a Ditto and work with Professor Tangrowth, a Pokémon who appears to have earned his doctorate at some point, to restore an island that was previously populated by all sorts of Pokémon. To achieve this, players build structures, plant flowers, water grass, and lay stones. You can think of the game as a kind of Animal Crossing with a Pokémon theme.
As Ditto, players can transform into other Pokémon to move around their island more efficiently. It’s still unclear how many Pokémon are included in Pokopia, but it is known that the majority of the first generation monsters are included. Players can customize their Ditto however they want, including changing its color or the human form it can transform into. The game even features cooperative multiplayer with GameShare functionality, meaning Switch 1 players can get in on the action as long as their friend owns a copy of the game.
Back to the new forms: Peakychu appears to be a ghost form of Pikachu, while Mosslax is clearly a leaf-type for Snorlax. Another new addition is an alternate form for Smeargle called Smearguru, although it’s hard to see what’s different about them. Maybe they have become master painters? All of our questions will be answered when the game releases early next year.
