Israeli media said that the delegates of the World Zionist Congress had not yet decided on a decision that effectively prevents the appointment of Yair, the son of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, from holding a high and lucrative position in the World Zionist Organization.
Haaretz newspaper explained that this step comes a few days after a person close to the Prime Minister attempted, in a surprise move, to secure a high position for Netanyahu’s son, as part of a power-sharing agreement between a broad coalition of factions in the main institutions of the Zionist movement.

She continued that as a result of Culture Minister Miki Zohar’s demand to appoint Netanyahu’s son as director of a department in the World Zionist Organization responsible for relations with diaspora Jews, especially French speakers, negotiations on the agreement, which was about to be signed, collapsed.
Efforts for Yair
Zohar, who represented Likud International in the negotiations, said he would not back down from his demand even if Netanyahu’s son himself said he was no longer interested in the position.
Haaretz reported, citing informed sources, that Prime Minister Netanyahu urged postponing the vote, but this was not possible under the regulations of the World Zionist Organization.
According to the Israeli newspaper, the position requires Netanyahu’s son to be a member of the Executive Council of the World Zionist Organization.
She said the resolution drafted over the weekend asks delegates to approve a list of about 30 members of the Executive Council, all of whom are mentioned by name, and the name of Netanyahu’s son is not included on the list, although two seats on the Executive Council have been reserved for Likud candidates.

For its part, the Jerusalem Post newspaper confirmed that voting on a new agreement for the World Zionist Congress will extend from Sunday morning until Tuesday, and it is likely that Netanyahu’s son will not be welcomed either.
She continued that voting on the World Zionist Congress proposal began on Sunday morning, with an agreement that did not mention the name of the Prime Minister’s son, but stipulated the election of two members of the executive authority on behalf of Likud, a clause that would make the appointment of the Prime Minister’s son unlikely.
She stated that a petition to stop the vote was submitted to the Supreme Zionist Court of the World Zionist Organization by several lists, but it was partially rejected. The court decided that voting would continue.
A source in the World Zionist Organization – which follows the Jerusalem Post – said that this condition made the vote a referendum on including Yair Netanyahu in the executive body, with another option being to return to negotiations with the Likud faction led by Culture Minister Miki Zohar, instead of the faction of the head of the World Zionist Organization, Yaakov Hagoel.
She said that both Zohar and Hagoel entered into an internal dispute in Likud over the leadership of the Global Likud, as Zohar demanded holding elections last Friday, while the Hagoel camp refused to hold elections, because rushing to hold elections before the Global Likud Conference would harm the democratic process, according to their point of view.
Each party accused the other of delaying the elections throughout the year for fear of losing, but sources indicated that Hagoel’s position had weakened within Likud, according to the Jerusalem Post.
