The ruling party asks that both elections be held on the same day; from the opposition they point out fear

WRITING

Mexico City.- Next Monday, November 10, a session called by the Constitutional Points Commission of the Chamber of Deputies will be held to discuss and in turn approve an initiative that seeks to tie a mandate revocation consultation to which the president would be subject Claudia Sheinbaum and the midterm election of 2027 where 17 governorships and the Lower House itself will be renewed.

The session in Commissions is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. on Monday, November 10, for a day later, on Tuesday, November 11, to upload the opinion to the plenary session of the Chamber of Deputies. According to the document, the initiative of the Morena deputy, Alfonso Ramirez Cuellarplans to reform sections VIII and IX of Article 35 of the Constitution, regarding popular consultation and revocation of mandate for this purpose.

“The popular consultations called in accordance with this section will be held on the first Sunday in June,” states the document, which indicates that with clear legal frameworks, holding the revocation consultation and the intermediate election “can increase citizen participation, save logistical and financial resources, reduce electoral fatigue among citizens and improve transparency and citizen control in said political processes.”

“National and comparative experience suggests that the simultaneous holding of elections generates a significant increase in citizen participation and the rationalization of public resources,” the opinion adds.

In turn, the project, according to Moreno member Ramírez Cuéllar, “will facilitate the tasks and activities of the National Electoral Institute, because instead of having two or more calendars, in which the deadlines can overlap, it will only have one calendar for the execution of its functions.”

CRITICISM FROM THE OPPOSITION

From the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the coordinator of the PRI, Rubén Moreira, published part of the modifications on his social networks, among which is changing the day to hold popular consultations, from the first Sunday in August to the first Sunday in June.

“All on the same day!!….fastball from #Morena….the fear of losing the midterm…we vote next Monday…to combine the revocation with the election of federal deputies, governors, mayors and judges and magistrates…the dictatorship that is coming,” he expressed.
