It has been mentioned that we are in the middle of a soft “manual” coup according to experts such as Guadalupe Correa And to deactivate or minimize attempts, the first thing of course is communication and dissemination that inform and avoid biased or manipulated information, but is it enough? The concessioned media are: 1945 radio stations; 532 commercial TV channels; 2,500 digital newspapers and 279 printed newspapers, plus paid actors and influencers, most of them mixing hate speech and media manipulation to foment social discontent and increase the perception of insecurity.
In the face of this constant bombardment, the greatest defense is of course La Mañanera and the 300 independent communicators of which barely 20 stand out, but not with the reach of just one of the channels. Ricardo Salinas. Although La Mañanera has been a watershed, in the absence of official agencies such as NOTIMEXdisappeared in 2023, the obvious information disadvantage makes media manipulation much easier and without real competition that can refute biased information. The official TV channels run by SPR have not achieved the audience levels necessary to permeate the information; the 4TVsupposed official channel of Morena It has not even managed to have a medium range despite its 6 years of transmission. The proximity of the president who visits the republic on weekends, social programs, creation of
jobs and others have managed to contain misinformation, the proof is that their level of acceptance is very high (70%) and has not been enough to contain the virus of hate that is already infecting both young people and adults.
In the European Union, Hungary, Singapore and Brazil, Legislation against robots and misinformation is already in place; Canada has invested in projects on disinformation; Platforms like Facebook and X have been fined for not providing fast checking to their algorithms. In Canada and Asia and the European Union, licensed media are required to include a banner specifying that the information provided is an opinion of the
driver and the European Parliament has just launched 10 steps to prevent and punish false or alarmist news without affecting the free transmission of content. We could learn and apply a lot from it. A thorough combat is urgently needed.
