Confirmed! there will be increase to the minimum wage by 2026according to the president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, in fulfillment of one of her government promises and with the support of businessmen and unions.
As reported during his morning conference, the increase in the minimum wage will be 13% by the beginning of 2026in order to achieve a salary that allows for the purchase of 2.5 basic baskets by 2030.

How much will the minimum wage increase in 2026?
Currently, the minimum wage is 278.80 pesos per day for the states in the central and southern zone of the country (, while for those on the northern border it is 419.88 pesos.
With the 13% increase announced by the Government of Mexico for 2026, the Minimum daily wage will remain at 315.04 pesos for the center and south and at 440.87 for the border.
Therefore, a minimum monthly salary in 2026 will be 9 thousand 582.47 pesos y 13 thousand 400 pesos respectively.
It is worth mentioning that this increase comes hand in hand with the discussed 40 hour work daywhich will be implemented gradually between 2026 and 2030, until what is stipulated is achieved.
From when will the salary increase apply?
As the Mexican authorities have already indicated, the 13% increase in salary will apply for the year 2026 and will be maintained for 12 monthsuntil the percentage increase for 2027 is determined.
The reflection of this increase will be seen in the income of workers starting January 1, 2026once it is published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF).
Basic Basket Plan
The essential of Basic Basket Plan of President Claudia Sheinbaum focuses on maintaining its price at 910 pesos.
For the above, the Mexican government together with self-service stores and agri-food companies signed the renewal of the Package Against Inflation and Famine (Pacic)which guarantees that the basic basket remains at the same price for the next 6 months.
This renewal is directly related to the annual increase in the minimum wage, according to what was highlighted by the head of the federal executive who assures that “increasing the minimum wage above inflation and guaranteeing that the basic basket is maintained is the best that can be offered to Mexican families”.

In this regard, the federal government has reiterated that none of them have generated an increase in inflation and were planned responsibly without affecting production costs, by a work team in which the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit and the Bank of Mexico.
