With the recent assassination of the municipal president of Uruapan, Carlos Manzo, President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced the “Michoacán Plan for Peace and Justice”a strategy that is based on addressing the root causes of violence in Michoacán.

- Economic development with justice
- Education and culture for peace
However, this is not the first time that a federal president has put on the table a strategy to address violence in the entity; nevertheless, results remain questionable.
Felipe Calderón and the war against drugs
During his six-year term, former President Felipe Calderón implemented the “Joint Operation Michoacán”, which marked the beginning of the “War against drug trafficking” and that its purpose was to reduce the levels of violence in the entity.

The program was implemented in four municipalities of Tierra Caliente: Morelia, Apatzingán, Uruapan and Lázaro Cárdenasand aimed to prevent violence with social actions “and the reconstruction of the social fabric in the state.”
AMLO’s support plan
