Chancellor Friedrich Merz has reaffirmed and defended the Union’s pension policy until 2031. In a current debate about the pension system, he emphasized the importance of implementing the points agreed in the coalition agreement. Merz spoke in the ARD format “Report from Berlin” and emphasized that the current discussion particularly concerns regulations that should apply until 2031. At the same time, he announced that fundamental reforms would be necessary after 2031 to make the pension system sustainable.
