After going to San Lázaro to talk with federal deputies, the corn producers expressed their frustration with the lack of responses from the Federal Government. They warned that, given the end of the talks, the agricultural movements in each State will have to define for themselves the actions to follow.
“We are tired of asking for time, we end up being the idiots because we come to justify positions of people who have not the slightest intention of helping, nor the slightest sensitivity to what is happening in the Mexican countryside“This is not just Guanajuato, there are 24 States of the Republic that are shouting and it seems that we are in a desert, there is no echo, there is no response,” said Mauricio Pérez, representative of Guanajuato producers and who announced his resignation as spokesperson for the Peasant Agricultural Movement.

“What follows is no longer up to us, I think it is time for the Government to adopt its role, especially the Secretary of Agriculture who is the one who has to show his face and who has to solve the problems, that is why we made the work tables, that is why we spoke, that is why we asked and we already said what we had to say,” added the Guanajuato farmer.
Members of the Movement highlighted that some agreements were reached for the countryside in the Chamber of Deputies, but there is a lack of a working table with the industry.
“What follows is no longer up to us, I think it is time for the Government to adopt its role, especially the Secretary of Agriculture who is the one who has to show his face and who has to solve the problems, that is why we made the work tables, that is why we spoke, that is why we asked and we already said what we had to say,” added the Guanajuato farmer.
“They contacted Dr. Julio Berdegué and I must tell them that we have the same situation as always: He wants us to write him a letter, where in that letter we explain our problem to the industry and that the industry sends us another letter. Damn, we are neither postmen nor clerks, nor anything, those euphemistic letters are unnecessary, we are not going to do that! For that we have a federal representative, there is a Secretary of State called Julio Berdegué and he has to do the necessary steps,” he said.
Given these actions, some road blockades are expected to return, such as in Guanajuato, after this Monday they left tolls free and freed some roads.
Pérez accused that there has not been a “reliable and tangible” response to speak with the industrialists.
